Nova Iorque voltou a ser o centro da música este domingo, 7 de setembro, com a realização dos MTV Video Music Awards 2025, na UBS Arena. Lady Gaga chegou como a artista mais nomeada, com 12 indicações, e saiu com quatro troféus, incluindo Artista do Ano, Melhor Colaboração, Melhor Realização e Melhor Direção de Arte.
Gaga cantou 'Abracadabra' e 'Dead Dance' ao vivo, com um vestido preto e roxo, repleto de folhos e rendas. No discurso, emocionou-se ao agradecer aos fãs, os 'Little Monsters', e ao noivo, Michael Polansky, com quem trabalhou no álbum 'Mayhem': "Dedico este prémio ao público. Vocês merecem, mais do que ninguém, um palco para brilhar, e eu ofereço todos os meus aplausos. Obrigada, 'Little Monsters', meus fãs, por sempre me apoiarem e por sempre apoiarem o monstro que existe em mim. E ao meu parceiro em tudo, Michael, criar este ano contigo foi um sonho lindo".
A abertura da cerimónia ficou a cargo de Doja Cat, que apresentou o novo single 'Jealous Type' num registo inspirado nos anos 80, acompanhada pelo saxofonista Kenny G. Já Ricky Martin foi homenageado com o prémio Latin Icon Award e fez um medley com os sucessos que marcaram os anos 90 e 2000, como 'Livin’ La Vida Loca'.
Um dos momentos mais comentados da noite foi protagonizado por Sabrina Carpenter: a cantora fez literalmente chover em palco durante a estreia da nova música 'Tears', rodeada por drag queens, numa homenagem à comunidade LGBTQIAPN+, segundo a 'Vogue'.
Mariah Carey também regressou ao palco para revisitar êxitos como 'Honey' e 'Fantasy'. Mais tarde, ao receber o prémio Vanguarda, deixou uma crítica bem-humorada à organização: "Não acredito que este é o meu primeiro VMA. Só tenho uma pergunta: de que raio estavam à espera? Estou a brincar. Adoro-vos".

Ariana Grande subiu ao palco para receber o prémio de Vídeo do Ano, com 'Brighter Days Ahead', e protagonizou um momento divertido. O microfone estava demasiado alto e a cantora não resistiu a brincar com a situação: "Isto fica mais alto consoante os anos?".
